[Art & Rambling] Kult #4 and the Longpigs

Here it is - my final cover for Dark Horse's "KULT" miniseries. For this one, my art directors wanted to capture a similar feel to one of Frank Frazetta's classic Conan covers, without being a blatant carbon copy. I really enjoy working religious iconography and symbolism into a piece any chance I get, and this story really afforded me a good opportunity to make it work. I really ran wild with getting the paint to look juicy and impasto-ed. Not entirely sure how successful I was with that, but I'm pretty happy overall with the piece.


On a side note, does anyone else miss the days when a music video was more than just watching Beyonce and Lady Gaga dance? I recently rediscovered this song by the Longpigs and decided to look it up on youtube. The video reminded me of how thought provoking visuals can really supplement a good song - and how most of the music videos of today's popular music are just flashing lights and sensationalism. Now I'm sure my opinion here is primarily driven by my nostalgia for 90s pop music, and I realize that even back then not every music video was artistic gold. But I sure do miss the ones that were....
